Gymnasts place at top of field in regional meet

Commerce City Cougars team sends 29 to state competition

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The city Parks and Recreation Department’s girls’ gymnastics team proudly sends 29 members to state Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) competition, July 29 and 30 at Overland High School in Aurora.

Commerce City’s Cougars team fielded 34 gymnasts at CARA’s regional meet, July 15 and 16 at Thornton High School. Members of CARA include city recreation centers and community organizations throughout the state. With 27 teams, CARA programs represent more than 1,000 gymnasts between the ages of 7 and 17.

Gymnasts must place in the top six in any event or the all-around competition to qualify for the state championships. Cougar team members and their qualifying regional results are:

Optional level 1
Myracle Fielding, 6th on vault, 6th on beam, 6th on bars, 6th in all-around; Jerika Jiron, 4th on vault, 5th in all-around; Samantha Stienhall, 6th on vault, 6th on bars, 2nd on floor.

Optional level 2
Bailey Nitura, 4th on bars, 5th on beam, 4th on floor; Hayley Sternberg, 4th on vault, 3rd on floor; Brianna Novak, 1st on bars, 3rd on beam, 4th in all-around; Miranda Sena, 6th on vault, 6th on beam, 1st on floor, 2nd in all-around.

Optional level 3
Brianna Swanson, 5th on beam; Lindsay Webb, 4th on vault.

Optional level 5
Hayley Owens, 3rd on vault, 2nd on bars, 1st on beam, 2nd on floor, 2nd in all-around.

Danelle Lazcano-Concelman, 1st on vault, 2nd on beam; Torrye Hampton, 3rd on beam, 2nd on floor, 6th in all-around; Karlie Wilson, 5th on vault, 3rd on bars, 6th on floor, 3rd in all-around.
Age 8
Zoie Martinez, 3rd on vault, 6th on floor; Ariana Bezjak, 6th on vault, 3rd on bars, 5th in all-around; Kennedy Waltenburg, 5th on vault, 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, 5th on floor, 1st in all-around. Kennedy has placed first in all-around competition at all four season meets and regionals, and heads into the state meet undefeated.

Age 10

Maddison Davis, 6th on beam; Keyton Siler, 1st on vault.

Commerce City hosted its home gymnastics meet, with 10 teams representing more than 300 gymnasts, in June at the Recreation Center. The gymnastics program thanks the following for their donations and support: Chipotle Mexican Grill, Sam’s Club, Blackjack Pizza, city staff members and parent volunteers.

The Recreation Center offers instructional and competitive gymnastics programs for girls and boys from toddler to 17 years of age. The center has a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility with a spring floor, spring-loaded vault runway, all regulation equipment, a foam training pit and top-of-the-line instructors.
