Forward to have surgery next week on torn left ACL
Commerce City, Colo. - Colorado Rapids forward Macoumba Kandji has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee, the club announced today. Kandji, who replace Omar Cummings in the 98th minute of the MLS Cup Championship match againt FC Dallas on Sunday, was injured on the game-winning goal only nine minutes after coming on.

With the score tied 1-1, Kandji received a long pass from Conor Casey on the right side of the box just two minutes into the second extra period. Kandji slipped the ball between the legs of Dallas defender Jair Benitez on his way towards goal, but as he stepped to shoot, Dallas defender Ugo Ihemelu clashed into the forward’s left leg. Kandji was able to get enough on the ball to direct it forward, and the ball deflected off Dallas defender George John and into the goal.
